The Algonquin Park Organics Program now runs on a "NO PLASTIC" policy.   Although there are several plastic bag products on the market that claim to be biodegradable or compostable.  These bags do not conform with our program since in our experience they interfere with  and cause damage to the augers with mix the organic material. Therefore, organic material in plastic bags or biodegradable bags cannot be accepted for processing.

The sorting of recyclables at the Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre is in large part done manually by material handlers. This sorting system does not have component for breaking plastic bags, so material need to arrive on the sorting line loose in order to be sorted.

Each year Algonquin Park is adding more organics MOLOks to campgrounds. At the moment it is in the beginning phases and as the program expands more oportunities for separating organics waste in campgrounds will be available.
